A beautiful shekel of Uzzibaal

PHOENICIA. Byblos. Uzzibaal, circa 400-365 BC. Shekel (Silver, 25 mm, 13.16 g, 3 h). Three hoplites, helmeted and holding round shields, on galley to left above waves, prow ending in lion's head; below, hippocamp to left above murex shell; to right, above dorsal fin, 'Z (in Phoenician). Rev. 'ZB'L MLK GBL ('Uzzibaal, king of Gebal' in Phoenician) Lion attacking bull to left. Betlyon 14 var. (no letters on obverse). E&E-B Series IV.2.1.c, 516 (O14/R25). HGC 10, 133 corr. (letters on obverse not noted). Attractive iridescent toning and with an attractive reverse. Struck from a worn obverse die, otherwise, about extremely fine.
